How It Works

Botox® is a cosmetic neurotoxin that works by causing temporary muscle paralysis. It targets the nervous system, disrupting the nerve signaling processes that stimulate muscle contraction. When injected into specific muscles, such as those around your mouth, lips, and upper lip, the use of Botox® (Botulinum toxin) blocks the release of a chemical messenger called acetylcholine at the junction where nerve endings meet muscle cells.

Acetylcholine normally attaches to receptors on the muscle cells, causing them to contract or shorten. By preventing the release of acetylcholine, Botox® effectively stops the muscle cells from contracting, helping the muscles to become less stiff. This process is particularly effective for treating lines around the lips, including smile lines, and can be combined with dermal fillers to plump the treatment area for enhanced cosmetic results.

Botox® may also be used as a nonsurgical option to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth.

Botox® Follow Up Care

After Botox® injections, avoid rubbing or massaging the treated areas for 24 hours, as this can cause the Botox® to spread to unintended muscles in your face. Avoid lying down for 4 hours after the procedure, and refrain from strenuous exercise for 24 hours. You can return to your normal activities immediately after the procedure, making it a convenient addition to your skincare routine.

To achieve the best results, continue to move the muscles in your face, especially around your mouth, for the next two hours. Avoid wearing a hat for several hours after injections. Refrain from consuming alcoholic beverages for the first 24 hours after treatment, as alcohol can increase the chances of bruising and swelling.
